Howdy, ‘Janes, Scouting Lads, and Assorted Campers & Counselors!

What in the Joan Jett?!?! How are we already more than halfway through our BOOM! Direct Reserve campaign for the LUMBERJANES 10th Anniversary Complete Comic Book Library?!?! We suppose that’s just what happens when you are celebrating friendship to the max! (Or according to Ripley when you fall into a weird pocket dimension time forgot.)

For those new to the series or anyone still debating whether to pick up a couple of volumes to dip your feet in the river of adventure or dive head first into the deep lake that is LUMBERJANES (Mal says be careful, there are sea monsters in rivers and lakes…), we are back with the second half of a handy-dandy LUMBERJANES Reading Guide!

LUMBERJANES Library Edition Volume 5 includes issues #49-60 of the main series which cover the storylines – “Indoor Recess,” “X Marks The Spot,” and “Birthday Smarty.” In this volume, a rainy day forces the camp to explore tabletop gaming and underground tunnels beneath the Mess Hall, the ‘Janes celebrate Jo’s birthday, and find a treasure map that leads them to a buried prize… err, threat!

LUMBERJANES Library Edition Volume 6 includes issues #61-72 of the main series which cover the storylines – “Mind Over Mettle,” “Smitten In The Stars,” and “Birthday Smarty” – and the standalone Bonus Tracks collection. In this volume, Mal and Ripley end up in the Land of Lost Things, an amazing astronomical event includes a visit from a gatecrashing goddess, and a collection of short stories from some of the biggest names in comics including Eisner Award-winner Faith Erin Hicks and New York Times bestselling author Holly Black.

LUMBERJANES Library Edition Volume 7 includes issues #73-75 of the main series which cover the “A Summer To Remember” storyline, the End of Summer and Farewell to Summer specials, and the standalone Campfire Songs collection. In this volume, with the end of summer coming soon, the ‘Janes decide to go on one last adventure, fight back against the mysterious force known as the Grey, and say goodbye… along with a collection of short fun summer stories – and kittens!

LUMBERJANES Library Edition Volume 8 includes all three Lumberjanes original graphic novels by Eisner Award-nominated writer Lilah Sturges (The Magicians, Jack of Fables) and rising star artist polterink – The Infernal Compass, The Shape of Friendship, and True Colors. In this volume, the ‘Janes embark on new stories full of adventure, mysterious new creatures and the greatest treasure of all - unforgettable moments with your best friends!

Marvelous Mary Shelley! Today, we’re over the moon to share with you a special 10th Anniversary message from the four co-creators of LUMBERJANES: 

At its heart and above all else, Lumberjanes has always been about friendship. Ten years ago, we made what we thought would be an eight-issue miniseries with only the goal of doing something fun together. It wasn’t until our very first convention, which was before the release of the very first issue, that we knew this was going to be bigger than ourselves: As soon as the show opened on the first day, a group of young people in full Lumberjanes cosplay ran over to our table to buy a book they couldn’t have even read yet because they saw the collection of characters on the cover and said “this is a book for us.” They were right.

We had a story to tell, and we wanted that story to take place in a world that mirrors the rich diversity of the real world while also presenting an aspirational vision of inclusivity where everyone can thrive by being their authentic selves. It is unbelievably gratifying that this vision has blossomed into a community where readers and characters alike share in the joy of discovery and, we hope, the courage to be their true selves.

Lumberjanes has become more than just a story; it’s a friend. And just like any friendship, it evolves, surprises, and supports, becoming a part of each of us. None of us is the same person we were when we started, but we’re all growing together. We’re profoundly honored to be on this journey with you, sharing every triumph, every laugh (holy kitten-related or otherwise), and every moment of unyielding friendship.

All of us, including you, made something fun together. This is a book for all of us.

Reading Guide (Part 1) & A New Stretch Goal Revealed!

We did it! Thanks to the enthusiasm of nearly 900 LUMBERJANES fans we’ve crossed $250,000 in reserved orders and unlocked our latest Stretch Goal. Not only have we added the 10th Anniversary embroidered patch to the complete LUMBERJANES Merit Badge Set, but we’ve also added another 35 complete LUMBERJANES Library Edition Sets that will be donated to ComicBooks For Kids! as part of this BOOM! Direct Reserve campaign.

Which also means it’s time to reveal and talk about our next Stretch Goal (To The Max)! When we reach $350,000 in reserved orders, we’ll add a premium Magic Companion Sticker Set to every physical reserved order of $100 or more. Featuring brand new artwork by Mittie Paul, this sticker sheet features a few of the friends that the Lumberjanes make during their time at Miss Qiunzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet’s Camp for Hardcore Lady-Types including a rocker mermaid, hipster yeti, and mythical medusa! Once unlocked, we’ll also make the sticker set available as an Add-On Item.

For those new to the series and are debating whether to pick up a couple of volumes to dip your feet in the river of adventure or dive head first into the deep lake that is LUMBERJANES (Mal says be careful, there are sea monsters in rivers and lakes…), we present the first half of a handy-dandy LUMBERJANES Reading Guide!

LUMBERJANES Library Edition Volume 1 includes issues #1-12 of the main series which cover the storylines – “Beware The Kitten Holy,” “Friendship To The Max,” and “A Terrible Plan.” This volume introduces you to all the main characters in LUMBERJANES, establishes some of the key mysteries surrounding Miss Qiunzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet’s Camp for Hardcore Lady-Types, and sees the ‘Janes go on their first couple of adventures. 

LUMBERJANES Library Edition Volume 2 includes issues #13-24 of the main series and covers the storylines –”Out of Time,” “Band Together,” and “Sink or Swim.” In this volume, the ‘Janes must learn basic survival skills when a mysterious blizzard hits the camp, get pulled into the lake and tangled up in a mermaid feud, and help Seafarin’ Karen get her boat back from renegade selkies.

LUMBERJANES Library Edition Volume 3 includes issues #25-36 of the main series and covers the storylines – “A Bird’s Eye View,” “Stone Cold,” and “On a Roll.” In this volume, the camp gets a visit from the High Council during a storm, the ‘Janes have to deal with Zodiac cabin getting turned to stone, and the yetis getting kicked out of their home and squatting in the camp

LUMBERJANES Library Edition Volume 4 includes issues #37-48 of the main series and covers the storylines – “Parents’ Day,” “Time After Crime,” and “Jackalope Springs Eternal.” In this volume, the ‘Janes parents invade the camp, then time goes wonky at the camp, and finally the ‘Janes go searching for the most mysterious mythological monster of all... the mighty Jackalope!

We’ll continue our LUMBERJANES Reading Guide next week, but before we go we also wanted to call your attention to a change we made to LUMBERJANES Library Edition Volume 6 and LUMBERJANES Library Edition Volume 7. We originally listed on the campaign page that Volume 6 would include “Campfire Songs” and Volume 7 would include “Bonus Tracks.” 

But Molly brought to our attention that Bonus Tracks was released first, and so to keep the Library Editions organized in a largely chronological order, we’ve updated the campaign page to reflect that “Bonus Tracks” will be in Volume 6 and “Campfire Songs” will be in Volume 7. 

Lastly, we wanted to note that we’ve sold out of Tier 9 and there are only 30 sets left in Tier 8, so don’t wait too long if you’ve been eyeing one of those. And don’t forget to share this BOOM! Meet The ‘Janes! Original Sketch Announcement!

As we head into our second week of this BOOM! Direct Reserve campaign and approach unlocking our next Stretch Goal (To The Max) at $250,000, we wanted to take a few moments and introduce (or re-introduce) the Lumberjanes (and their closest pals) to folks following the campaign who may not have never read a LUMBERJANES comic book or graphic novel.

As you can already tell, one of the wonderful things about LUMBERJANES is how every reader can find a ‘Jane they relate to. And what’s more, no ‘Jane fits neatly into a stereotype! As the series progresses, readers get to learn more and more about them and watch them grow.

New Stretch Goal Reveal! Library vs. To The Max!

By the chromatic power of Lisa Frank! Thanks to the incredible enthusiasm of 708 LUMBERJANES fans, we’ve unlocked our third Stretch Goal (To The Max) which upgraded everyone’s LUMBERJANES Library Editions and a donation of 25 complete hardcover sets for ComicBooks For Kids!

Which means, it’s also time to reveal and talk about our fourth Stretch Goal (To The Max)! When we reach $250,000 in reserved orders, we will unlock and automatically add this commemorative 10th Anniversary embroidered patch to the complete LUMBERJANES Merit Badge Set that automatically comes in Tiers 6-9. 

This addition brings the total number of embroidered patches in the set to a staggering 50 (That’s even more than the kittens Ripley magically manifested in the camp!). The complete LUMBERJANES Merit Badge Set is also available as an Add-On if you prefer to customize your order. These embroidered badges can be sewn right into your camp vest along with the badges from our previous project.

Plus, when we unlock this Stretch Goal (To The Max), we will also donate 35 additional complete LUMBERJANES Library Edition Sets to ComicBooks For Kids!, bringing our total donated sets up to 60!

Before we go, we also wanted to reshare our handy-dandy explainer charts which provide details on what issues are collected in both collections editions of LUMBERJANES we’re offering through this campaign. Longtime LUMBERJANES fans may recall that the series has been collected in smaller softcover editions (over 20 in total!) and that we previously released six “To The Max” Edition hardcovers which each collected roughly eight issues of the comic series. The “To The Max” Editions were discontinued in 2020 and this campaign provides fans who were collecting those editions a chance to complete the series in that format. Please note that because this edition has been discontinued, this BOOM! Direct Reserve campaign will be the only chance to complete a “To The Max” Edition set.

This BOOM! Direct Reserve campaign is also where we are debuting the new LUMBERJANES Library Editions, which each collect approximately 12 issues of LUMBERJANES, and will encompass the entire series in a more manageable eight volume set. While these editions will be made available through our traditional retail channels, like comic book stores, independent bookstores, Amazon, and other online retailers, this BOOM! Direct Reserve campaign will deliver the complete sets around the same time as Volume 1 releases in those other channels. That means that BOOM! Direct Reserve customers will receive complete sets first. Additionally, any upgrades unlocked for the Library Editions during the campaign will be exclusive to this BOOM! Direct Reserve edition, limited to its initial print run, and never to be reprinted.
